ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SILVER-PLATED ICE, a smile stretched the lips of the man without eyes. She was there. Come back, as he had predicted it. The right and valorous heart had encouraged her to come back at home. She had returned in the hope that all do not disappear. His mother regina, his brother the warrior, his uncle shy Vallerio …. The man noticed the siren to cross the ruins of the stateroom of the palace, the eyes were fixed on her such two obscure and immense chasms. She seemed different. Its keeping was more adapted to life in currents: tendency but resistance fighter. She had cut short and dyes in black her long hair copper-coloured brown. Mistrust and alertness whet its green look. However, in some respects, she had not changed. Its gestures remained halting and doubt sweated in its look. The man saw that she was always unaware of the source of her power and, as a result, which she did not believe in it still completely. It was a good thing. The time which she includes, he would be too much late. Too late for her, for the oceans, for the whole world. The siren noticed the yawning hole where stood in the past the wall is of the stateroom. A current in the slow and melancholic debit poured in the foible. Anemones and seaweeds had begun colonizing his shredded ledges. She swam up to the broken throne, then bowed to touch the soil. She remained immobile a right time, lowered head. Then, standing up, she moved back slowly towards the north wall. He had already tried to kill her. It was before his kingdom is attacked. He had got into his room across a mirror, but a servant had entered, forcing him to go back to the silver-plated glass. This time, obstacle came from long sinuous fissures who, like a network of veins, ran throughout of the mirror. The space between these fissures, too narrow to let through its whole body, hardly proved to be rather broad for the arms. Slowly, without a noise, the hands crossed the mirror, floating in some centimetres only of the siren. It would be so simple to close again them on the slender neck and to make an end of what Iele had begun. But not, reflects the man by moving back. It would not be reasonable. Her courage and her force surpassing by far what he had imagined, it was not impossible that she achieves where others had failed: she could find amulets. And, if she reached it, he would not have more than to get them from him. A triton she had given whom to in the past the heart and the confidence would take responsibility for it for him …. The man without eyes had waited so for a long time! He knew that it was not the instant to lose patience. He left in the mirror and blended in once again with the silver-plated liquid. In both chasms where lived in the past the eyes, darkness started to glitter, intense and lively. A darkness which notices and that waits. A hidden darkness, ready to spring up. A so ancient darkness as the Gods. At the time of living its last instants, the principessa would see her, also. He would have only to turn the face to her and to make him consider these abysses of bottomless blackness. She would see her defeat. And the victory of darkness. Tremor and breath runs, Serafina called as extremely as she could afford it. The silver-plated liquid curled around her to the liking of its displacements across the gallery of the sighs of Vadus, kingdom of mirrors. On walls were hanging thousands of ice and of cheval glasss in which danced the faltering light of chandeliers. Put to one side some vitrina who noticed their reflexion of an absent air, the gallery was empty. It will be had hoped that his friends would not be far, but was not case. She concludes from it that they had had to succeed in another corner of Vadus. At least, no horseman of death had been able to follow them. Baba Vrăja had looked after it by breaking the mirror in which Will Be had dived, what had allowed him to avoid the soldiers and their captain, Markus Traho. — Come, of money fish! she called again in a murmur. It was necessary that she becomes discreet, that she creates least possible eddy. She did not want that the lord of Vadus discovers his presence. He was also dangerous as Traho. She remembered scarabs. Vrăja had given them a handle each to lure the money fish. She took them out from her pocket and made them clink in her fist. — Here, baby, baby, baby! she blew. More quickly she would find one, more quickly she could come back at home. Serafina had escaped Miromara two weeks earlier, when Cerulea – its capital – had been pervaded. The attackers had killed his father and tried to assassinate his mother. Sent by the admiral Kolfinn of Ondalina, a kingdom sea located in the Arctic, they answered the orders of a violent and merciless triton, the captain Traho. Will be Ondalinienne had met the girl of Kolfinn, Astrid, in the caves of Iele, and he had sworn that his father had never ordered the plague of Miromara, but the principessa did not trust in him. As Serafina herself and four other sirens with them – Neela, Becca, Ling and Ava – Astrid had been called by Iele, sorceresses' very powerful clan of rivers. Of the mouth of Vrăja, their leader, sirens had learnt that they were the direct descendants of Six Original Sovereigns, the magi who governed in the past the empire disappeared from Atlantis. They had also learnt that Orfeo, the most powerful of Six, had delivered the island in the fury of a colossal baleful monster: Abbadon. The creature had destroyed Atlantis before being finally conquered by five associates of Orfeo. They had imprisoned it in Carceron, then one of the magi – Sycorax – had dragged the prison to the Southern ocean, where she had buried it under the ice. But the monster had begun again fidgeting. Somebody had awakened it. Serafina was persuaded that it was about Kolfinn. Undoubtedly he wanted to use the power of Abbadon to take the control of all kingdoms sea. According to Vrăja, sirens had to destroy the monster before the person responsible for her waking manages to liberate it. For it, they have to find the ancient amulets having belonged to Six Original Sovereigns. With these objects, they could unbar Carceron and take responsibility for Abbadon. Will be knew that his best chance to discover where were hidden amulets domiciled in the Ostrokon de Cerulea, among conches - archives of the Journey of Merrow. She thought that Merrow, the first sovereign of the people sea, had hidden amulets in the course of a trip which she had undertaken across the oceans of the planet and that conches could reveal their site. Although aware of danger – without speaking about its fright at seeing Cerulea in ruins – she has to come back at home. But not right away. There was another place where she had to go first. No, Will Be! a strong voice rose. She deeply turned round to discover who had just spoken, but there was nobody. Do not go there, mine. It is too dangerous. — Ava? whispered Will Be. It is you? Where are you. — It is a convoca? the difficulty of the bewitching of convocation asked Will Be by remembering which had taught him Iele. Yes I try to support him blie not Astrid …. — Ava, your words are very hacked! I do not any more hear you. No answer reached him during some seconds, then the voice of Ava again made itself heard: Do not forget what Astrid said: «Opafago devours their living victims So that the heart continues beating and circulating the blood. — I know, but I have to go there. Less risky Ostrokon asks you …. The voice of Ava dwindled again. — I cannot, Ava. Yet. Before knowing where are amulets, they have to be able to what they are. Will be she waited for the answer of her friend, but has never come. — Come, of money fish! she called once again, her voice was more marked by emergency. She wasted time. She has to bugger off from here. — Here, small fish! I have a tasty sweet as you. — Marvellous! J’ love sweets! another voice in the back cried. The blood of Serafina froze. Riorim Erissem. He had succeeded in spotting her finally! She turned round slowly. — Principessa! What a pleasure of seeing you again! the lord of mirrors rejoiced. The eyes slid on the face of the siren, noting his paleness in passage, then settled on deep cuts which streaked his tail since his battle against Abbadon. His mellifluous smile widens. — I must say, however, that you have no air very in form, he added. — Contrary to you, argued Serafina by moving away backwards. In form and fed well. The face was also round as a full moon. He wore a sour green silk tunic among which falls, although spacious, could not hide its corpulence. — Oh well, thank you, dear! Indeed, I have just savoured a meal of the most delightful! It was given to me by a human young person. A girl of almost your age. He let get away a sound burp, then covered the mouth. — Oups. Please excuse me. I fear having had bigger eyes than belly. There was tasty frouillards so much to be savoured. Frouillards was the deepest fright of a person. Riorim fed on it. — It is therefore for it that you are as fatty as a walrus, retorted Serafina by taking care of keeping at a good distance. — Impossible to resist. This small idiot returned it so easy! She reads these things called magazines, see each other, filled with photos of other girls. Only, these plates were delighted to give the impression of a beauty without defect and she does not know it. All that she knows, it is that these girls are perfect and that she, she is not her. She spends hours fretting in front of her mirror, and me, since the opposite side, I murmur him that she is not rather slim, rather nice or not rather gifted. And, as soon as his anxiety and his grief peak, I pass to table. Poor baby, Serafina thought by rethinking of the malaise which lived in it when she did not feel as high as waitings of others. Malaise which lived in it even today. — Isn't it tremendous, Principessa? Ah, goggs! I love them. They make a lot of my job on my place. But spoken enough of them! These things which I hear on your subject these last days! Riorim cried by checking off Serafina of the finger. The captain Traho polls whole rivers in your research. What do you come to make to Vadus? Where do you go. — At home, lied Will Be. The eyes of Riorim narrowed. He moistened his lips. — You are not forced to leave us so quickly, yes. He was behind Serafina even before she realises no that he had moved. She stifled a shouting of surprise by smelling a liquid shiver to run along her column. — Always so solid! he noted with sadness. — Withdraw your nasty legs of my back! exclaimed Will Be by moving away from him of a fin flapping. But he caught her. — Why did you call my money fish? he asked him. Where do you really go. — I have already said it to you: at home. Will be knew that she had to hide from him her fright, otherwise he would use it to support her here forever, as a vitrina. But he was already too much late: a lively pain attacked him. — Ah! In here is one! whispered Riorim, cold breath of which she smelt against the neck. Baby Principessa, you think you are so clever and you are so audacious! But you are not him. I know it. And your mother knew it, also. You disappointed her many and many times. You dropped her, left her in death. — No! Serafina sobbed. The quick fingers of Riorim explored the spinal column in search of even deeper fright. — But wait, there is better! Look at the fact that you prepare us there. He remained silent one instant, then resumed:. — My word, it is a sacred task which entrusted you Vrăja! And you think honestly that you have a chance to arrive at it? To you? What will she make when you will have failed? I imagine that she will find somebody else. Somebody more gifted. Exactly as Mahdi. The bile of its words hit Serafina in full heart such a stripe sting. Mahdi, the crown prince of Matali, the triton whom she loved, had deceived her with other one, and the wound was still yawning. She looked down, paralysed by pain. She forgot the reason of her presence here. And the place where she wanted to go. His will sags and a suffocating dullness enveloped it such a navy blue fog. With a purring of pleasure, Riorim detached a small black thing hidden between two of its vertebras. The frouillard struggled with piercing screams while he stuck him in his mouth. — So delightful! he tittered once he had swallowed it. I would better make to stop there, but I cannot help from it! he added by swallowing another frouillard. You will be able never to conquer Traho. Sooner or later, he will end up finding you. The brightness of the eyes of Serafina weakens. The head dived forward. Riorim picked other frouillards, whom he cleaned off by using the palm personally. — Mmmh! Divine! he says by swallowing them about a feature. A burp avoided him. Rude noise took out Serafina of its lethargy. During some seconds, the dullness receded and its mind became again clear. He is destroying me. I should not let it make, she thought, despaired. But how to fight him? He is so strong …. At the price of a serious effort, she raised the head and stifled a shouting. Riorim had doubled volume! The belly dangled down between the knees, from now on. The face was caused to swell in a ridiculous way. A grimace twisted it lips. The stomach begins making him suffer, she thought. Another voice resounded in the head. That of Vrăja: Instead of avoiding him, you should let your fright express yourself, had recommended him the sorceress. It is what Serafina is going to make. She is going to let her fright express herself, let it shout. — You are right, Riorim. For what Vrăja expects from me is impossible. She was throwing the heart to the lions in a monster. If she failed, he would devour it. Riorim took over a frouillard new and chewed him. Another burp tore from him off a grimace. The belly touched the soil, currently. — He would be perhaps wise that I make a small pause between my meals, he grumbled. One instant, I ask you …. Will be did not grant him this favour. — I am afraid to see again never my uncle or my brother, she hastened to add. I am afraid of horsemen of death. I am afraid for Neela, Ling, Ava and Becca. I am afraid that Astrid tells the truth. I am afraid that she lies to me. I am afraid of Traho. I am afraid of the man without eyes …. Riorim picked frouillards by handles currently. He had so chubby arms as he could barely attain his mouth, and however he could not give up to eat, dominated by his own gormandising. — Do you still know what frightens me. — In the name of the Gods, stop. I ask you! Riorim pled her. He moved back of a step, lost balance and toppled over behind. Unable to get up again, he agitated the legs and the arms in every direction, such a turtle put to bed on the back in inability to turn round. Serafina leant above him. She shouted currently:. — I am afraid to become mad in front of so much suffering! I am afraid that other Ceruléens is killed! I am afraid that other villages are attacked! I am afraid that Traho harms in Vrăja! I am afraid that Blu dies! I am afraid for Sea prisoners on board of the boat of Alfred Treebot. Riorim closed eyes. He wails and Serafina gave up to shout. She stood up, surprised at discovering that the grey fog had disappeared. She had conquered Riorim. Her fright had become an ally and an enemy was not any more. Smiling, she opened the hand. Scarabs were there still. — Money fish! Come! she shouted with all his/her might. But no silver-plated creature appeared. Serafina understood suddenly what did not go. She called once again:. — Money fish! Come. The silver-plated liquid fidgeted and a cloudier current formed. Two long shaking aerials appeared from it, followed by a head. The creature dragged itself completely from some opaque liquid and Serafina saw that she was colossal and endowed with a long segmented carapace. Twice as big as a hippokampe of good size. A pair of huge black eyes stared at it. — This smells the scarab! told off the creature. — Drive me to Atlantis and they belong to you! he promised Serafina. The money fish acquiesced and Serafina climbed the back. The creature folded up its long aerials so that they are of use as reins for the siren. Will be became established as she had habit to make it on Clio, its hippokampe: the tail wrapped around the side of the animal and the back well right. — L ’Atlantis? You ride towards your own death! Riorim exclaimed. — I go there to prevent that death knocks. Prevent my death and that of many others. — Idiot! barked Riorim by moving arms and legs, such a fanatical. Opafago will devour you living! They will break you bones to suck the marrow! If you are not afraid, you should. — I am not afraid, Riorim …. — Liar, he hissed. — I am terrified. When the first advanced, second moved back, and when the feline lost a bit of ground, Noel threw himself forward - to wipe a new rebuff. De its right leg, it flung an ample flight on Noel's chest which was cast almost two metres in air, as a pouche was dispelled of a pichenette. Soon put back on feet, Noel left again in the attack, furious, treating with disdain of size and agility of his adversary. First chapter we make acquaintance with the family MCCRAY. Todd is the younger of five child, he is in age to be independent and to have a job but all this is not for him, because he is not as others he is handicapped and childish therefore he stays at home with his parents and helps his daddy with the animals of the farm. In 20 years he is physically as any young man, but lived him in his bubble, his world. He dedicates a passion for painting and in an extraordinary relation with the animals. His daddy taking care of animals all day long does not wish it in the home, but everything is going to change when Todd hears on the radio an announcement of the shelter of animals of the city: adopt a dog for Christmas holidays. The programme is simple so that every dog has a home as Christmas the family takes the dog on December 18th and can bring it back on December 26th or simply adopt it for life. His persuaded mom that it could be well to have a dog as Christmas is for the programme but it is his daddy whom it is going to be necessary to persuade most …. Every day Tucker waited for it, under the veranda of his grandmother, impatient of his return but unfortunately Georges did not come back and Tucker was gone to another world what tremendously affected him. Nonetheless to make happy his son the time of Christmas it accepts that a dog comes to gladden the life of Todd but righteous man the week no more. Finally December 18th came, Todd and Georges went to choose a Christmas dog in the shelter of the city, having surveyed dogs every and posed multitudes of questions his choice is made on a crossed black labrador retriever, already moved forward in age. His daddy asks him how his name is and proud Todd to answer him I called him Christmas, and here is it left for a week of co-habitation and everything takes place for the best, it is a good educated dog, in listening and clean. But Todd did not finish it he intends to put all dogs of the shelter in a family for holidays, and it is bet to win. The shelter is going even to offer him a post adapted for him. Unfortunately December 26th comes and Christmas must retort in the shelter and every member of the family in a pinch in the heart. Will Christmas return to the farm forever or will it find a family which will adopt it?. I loved this novel told by the daddy of Todd. This history proves us how much the animals can choose their maitre, to show them all their recognition to take them out from a shelter and to make them happy. Some passages of the book moved me and yes I love the animals. Christmas made me think of my labrador Ugo who misses me a lot. History is nice and touching but it seems to me that this would have been better a lot if Todd would have tell story or else the mieuxle dog himself. It would be then possible to know what encourages him to run away and what encouraged him to return. In short, the fact that this evening the father who racote history cast a pall over the book which would have been able to be better a lot. A splendid book, loan of love, of sensitivity, of hope but also painful memories. Sticking characters and simple but magical history. The type of book that it is possible to read dozens times without growing tired. Todd, 20 years old, solitary, mentally resided, has the mind of a child. Its father gives in to its requests and adopts a labrador in a shelter for sound fils:Noel. George, injured man in the war of Viet-Nahn, although reticent at the beginning, thinks to give a sense of responsibility so to Todd. That - there is completely transformed thanks to its companion and to its unconditional love. Toue the household is under its charm, and under its vigilant nurse (attack of the cougar). Love and courage can conquer a lot of obstacles. Nice history of friendship between a man and a dog. It is a simple history, a pretty tale (of Noel).
